History of the League
The league was formed on the 1st February, 1981,
comprised of the following clubs Knottingley, Spenborough, Morley, Barnsley and Stocksbridge.
For the first two years the Clubs took it in turns to Chair Meetings, the first Elected Chairman was Paul Barlow from Knottingley.
The League is made up of Four Division and is run with the aim of giving Swimmers, who would not necessarily be of a standard to compete at County and above level, the chance to take part in League Competition Galas. Please see Rules for full eligibility.
Events are split into Four age groups based on age as 31st December in year of competition
10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, and 'Open'.
Individual events are swum at 50 metre distance
Medley and freestyle relays are swum at 4 x 25 metre for age groups 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under
4 x 50 metre for the Open Age Group
Additionally a freestyle cannon event is swum at 8 x 25 metre - one boy, one girl from each age group.
Each Gala comprises of 49 events

Linda has tirelessly served the Barnsley Minors Swimming League over the last twenty
five + years as it's Secretary and organiser of the Individual Gala each year, we are pleased to announce that she has been awarded the Molly and Leslie Gledhill Memorial Trophy for her services to Swimming by the ASA North East Award Congratulations to Linda The Committee has agreed at the AGM in November to rename the Individual Championships in honour of Alec James who sadly passed away in 2014 after being Chairman of the League for 10 years, this Championship will now be called:- The Alec James Barnsley Minors Swimming League Individual Championships |
